Michaels Store Return Policy

Michaels is a chain of over 1,250 arts and crafts stores in the U.S. That’s the number of stores where you can return your Michaels and Michaels Pro items within 60 days of purchase. The item you want to return has to be new and unused and have the original packaging intact.

You don’t need the receipt to return an item to Michaels, but it helps. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to confirm your identity with a valid ID. Michaels will try assisting you in finding the receipt through your Michaels Rewards program number if you’re enrolled.

Without a receipt, you can get the refund for the item’s lowest value in the past 90 days, in the form of a store return card or merch exchange, meaning you can't get your money back.

Michaels Online Purchase Returns

Online purchase returns can be handled at a Michaels store, but in-store purchase returns can’t be initiated online. Exchanges also can’t be requested online. If you want to exchange an item you purchased from the web store, you need to return it and order a new item.

For online returns, use your delivery invoice or order confirmation email as proof of purchase. Online orders that have been placed can only be changed by calling customer support at 800-555-1212.

Exceptions to the Michaels Return Policy

Returning items is challenging enough without all the exceptions to return policies, yet Michaels has many of them:

  • Check purchases have a ten-day waiting period, and they can only be refunded with store credit
  • Gift cards and prepaid cards can’t be returned or exchanged, except where required by law
  • Purchases made before April 15, 2021 have a 180-day return limit
  • You can get a refund for classes in store until the start date of the class
  • Custom framing orders can be reworked in the same store locations where they were ordered within two weeks
  • Circuit products can only be returned with a receipt and if they are unopened

Eligible returns can be fully refunded to the original method of payment, except for debit card and PayPal purchases, which are refunded in the form of cash. Refunds usually take up to two weeks from the day Michaels receives the returned item in its warehouse.
