  2. Associate degree
  3. Qualified certificate, or
  4. Baccalaureate degree

The scholarship is renewable for one or three years, depending on whether you’re enrolled in a two- or four-year program.

Students who manage to get an undergraduate degree in less than four years can use the remaining aid to pay for their graduate studies.

Arkansas high school seniors who intend to or have already earned 27 college credit hours before starting school can forfeit the first semesters of awards to receive an increase in their scholarship later on.

Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship Requirements

The Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship divides requirements into three categories:

  1. Requirements for traditional students
  2. Requirements for non-traditional students
  3. Requirements for both groups of continuing students

Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship—Requirements for Traditional Students

When applying for the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, traditional students are considered to be incoming freshmen. To be eligible to receive the scholarship, traditional students must not:

  • Be pursuing a second or any later baccalaureate degree
  • Owe a refund or be in default for federal student financial aid
  • Have exceeded the annual federal loan limit
  • Have avoided registration for the United States Selective Service System
  • Fail to certify that they are drug-free
  • Be enrolled in fewer than:
    • 12 credit hours during their first fall semester
    • 15 credit hours during the rest of the semesters

Continuing traditional students must:

  • Maintain a cumulative 2.50-grade point average
  • Complete 27 credit hours during their first year and 30 during the rest

Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship—Requirements for Non-Traditional Students

To receive the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, non-traditional students must:

  • Enroll in at least 15 credit hours if they’re in a full-time program or six credit hours for a part-time one
  • Meet one of the following additional requirements:
    • Graduated from an Arkansas public high school with a 2.5 GPA
    • Graduated from an Arkansas public high school, a private high school, an out-of-state high school, were homeschooled, or obtained a high school equivalency diploma approved by the Division of Career and Technical Education and had a minimum composite score of 19 on the ACT or the equivalent score on an ACT equivalent (ACRE or SAT)
    • Earned a minimum postsecondary GPA of 2.5 in completed courses

Continuing non-traditional students will be renewed for the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship if they attempt a total of 130 semester hours in eight semesters if they’re enrolled full-time or up to 16 semesters for part-time students.

Requirements for Both Groups of Continuing Students

All students who are renewing the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship must:

  • Be continuously enrolled in their school. An exception to this rule is if the student asks for their award to be placed on hold. The maximum delay is four consecutive semesters
  • Enroll in courses that lead toward a baccalaureate degree after getting an associate’s degree or having less than four remaining semesters of available funding
