Backcountry Return Policy—How To Return Products to Backcountry Effortlessly

If you don’t want to end up stuck with a Backcountry product that doesn’t meet your expectations, you should know how the Backcountry return policy works. Unfortunately, the technicalities can be boring, and the terms and conditions are pretty confusing.

Backcountry has a relatively liberal return policy with no preset return window. You can return new, unused gear at any time for a full refund to your original payment method. If you used the merchandise, you must return it within 30 days of delivery for a store credit refund.

To qualify for a full refund, you must return the gear in pristine condition. Make sure to return it in the original box or packaging, including all manufacturer tags (where applicable).

For used but undamaged products, bikes, or bike frames, you can get a store credit added to your Backcountry account. The company doesn’t accept returns if you damaged the items because of negligence or abuse.

If the products you wish to return get damaged during shipping, the repair costs are on you. Carefully pack your returns to avoid additional charges.

Backcountry Exchanges and Return Numbers (RMAs)

You need an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number to complete the return process. You can create an RMA yourself or contact a Gearhead—Backcountry’s customer service representative—to help you make one. You can reach a Gearhead:

To make an RMA yourself, you’ll have to:

  1. Log in to your Backcountry account or sign in with Facebook or your Apple ID
  2. Navigate to Order History
  3. Select the order you wish to return and create a unique RMA number

If you wish to exchange a product and get a replacement as fast as possible, you should return your original purchase and place a new order simultaneously. This way, the product won’t go out of stock while you wait for your exchange.

In case you only want to return the product, create an RMA number, send the parcel back, and you will receive a full refund for unused items.

How Can I Send Return Shipments to Backcountry?

There are two options when sending the package back to Backcountry:

  1. With a prepaid label
  2. Without a prepaid label

Returns With a Prepaid Label

Backcountry offers a $6.99 UPS shipping label for eligible customers within the U.S. You can print this label once you create the RMA number or let a Gearhead generate the RMA for you and send you the return label via email.

Tape the label on your return package and drop the parcel off at any UPS store. The label cost will be deducted from the refund or credit issued.

  • Indoor cycles

Returns Without a Prepaid Label

To return a product without a label, you should create an RMA from your order history or have a Gearhead generate one for you. In case your order has a paper invoice, write down the RMA number found on your dashboard and include it in your return. If you don’t have an invoice, write the RMA and order number on paper and send it with the package.

Make sure to abide by these rules:

  • Always place the RMA on your package
  • Don’t place shipping labels on product packaging
  • Put the product in its packaging inside a shipping box or bag
  • Attach the shipping label to the shipping container

Once the parcel arrives at Backcountry’s distribution center, you will receive a confirmation email. It shouldn’t take more than five business days for the company to process your return and issue a refund.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, returns are possible only by mail.
