How to Reach Zelle's Customer Service Hassle-Free

When the pandemic hit in the spring of 2020, many companies were scrambling to discover ways to provide services without requiring face-to-face contact. Some companies, such as Zelle, already provided contactless services and saw a sharp increase in usage. According to a recent press release, nearly half a trillion dollars was sent by customers and businesses in a year's time through Zelle, a 59 percent increase in sent payment volumes over the previous year, and a 49 percent increase in transactions. In spite of allowing individuals and businesses to send money easily from bank to bank without a third-party provider or anyone having to make an appearance at the bank, there are times when something goes wrong with the transaction or someone is struggling to change their account settings and needs to speak with a live person with . Very few of us have the time or energy to sit on hold with a company all day long, however. Fortunately, with DoNotPay, you don't have to wait on hold at all!

What is Zelle?

is a fast and easy way to send money directly between U.S. bank accounts without paying a fee. Typically, the money arrives at its recipient within minutes. Zelle is available through most U.S. banking apps as well as through a stand-alone app that allows you to enroll in the service through a mobile phone number or an email address and to provide a debit card or bank account from which to send and receive payments. In order to pay someone else, you simply type in the mobile phone number or email address that they're enrolled with and the amount of money you wish to send.

Zelle began in 2017 and has since become the largest P2P payments network, now twice the size of its next largest stand-alone competitor. The customers of nearly 10,000 banking institutions use Zelle, with 3,000 of those institutions joining the network in the past year.

How to Contact Zelle's Customer Service

For those who are using Zelle through their banking institution's app, the bank or credit union can assist with any issues and you can reach them by calling the number on the back of your debit card. However, for those using the stand-alone Zelle app, you can contact Zelle's customer service in a couple of ways, including:

  1. By email through the online form on the company's website. Expect a response within two days.
  2. By calling the customer support number at 844-428-8542. Calls are accepted 7 days a week (excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day), from 10 AM - 10 PM.

Difficulties that Require You to Contact Zelle's Customer Service

Some of the common issues that Zelle's customer service can help you with include:

  • The money you sent was not received by your intended recipient, or the money they sent to you has not appeared in your account.
  • You were unable to download the app or the number you intended to enroll with is already enrolled with another Zelle account.
  • You receive a message that you have been locked out of your account due to having attempted to enter your password too many times.
  • You no longer wish to use Zelle and would like to deactivate your account.

If you are unable to wait for two days to receive a response to your email, you are asked to call the company's customer service number. Unfortunately, this requires you to ensure that you're calling within the hours that the customer service department is open and can mean time spent on hold. While DoNotPay can't help you solve the issue you're having with Zelle, we can help you reach customer service without spending even a second on hold.
