is officially called "Linda Woodman State Jail" and is sometimes called "Woodman Unit." It is located in Gatesville, Texas, and is about a 45-minute drive from Waco. It can house up to 909 minimum security female prisoners. The facility serves primarily as an intake jail, with most inmates being transferred to another facility.

Inmates may receive adult education, such as literacy courses and GED testing. Additional services are available, like parenting classes, life skills training, victim awareness, and the CHANGES pre-release program. Some inmates may be selected to provide supervised labor.

How to Contact Inmates at Woodman State Jail

By Mail

  1. Families are encouraged to exchange letters with inmates.
  2. Photographs may be sent, so long as they don't exceed 4" x 6". Polaroid photos, photos that are of a sexual nature, or photos depicting gang activity are not allowed.
  3. Inmates may receive some stationery items if sent directly from a verified vendor.
  4. Books, magazines, and newspapers are permitted so long as they come from a verified vendor like Amazon. Hardcover books are strictly prohibited. Publications that contain nudity promote hate, contain maps, and describe how to manufacture contraband are prohibited.
  5. As Woodman State Jail is often a temporary holding location, it may be better to wait to send packages to permanent facilities.

  1. All inmates can make outbound calls to anyone on their established lists of contacts. Contact lists are provided during intake.
  2. Before you can receive a call, your phone number must be registered. This can be done on the Texas Inmate Phone website or by calling 1-866-806-7804. You will need to provide information from your driver's license and telephone bill. More information is required if you authorize prepaid billing.
  3. Calling hours are from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm but can be interrupted by security events. Call times are limited to 20 minutes. Calls to prepaid cell phones or VOIP lines are prohibited.

Sending Money

  1. You can send money to inmates in four ways MoneyGram, online, over the phone, or by mail.
  2. MoneyGram Deposits can be made at any MoneyGram kiosk in Walmart or CVS. Use the received code 3570. Be sure to have the inmate's TDCJ number handy.
  3. Phone Deposits Can be made with JPAY. Simply call 1-800-574-5729 to make a deposit. You may also use TouchPay (1-877-868-5358) or Western Union (1-800-325-6000).
  4. There are four ways to make online deposits You can use eCommDirect, Western Union, TouchPay, or JPAY.
  5. Mail deposits

You must obtain a deposit slip. This can be mailed to you by inmates or by requesting via mail. To request a deposit slip by mail, send a self-addressed and stamped envelope to:

Visitation

Inmates are allowed one visitation per week. You must bring a identification card. There are several strict rules to abide by. It is recommended that you familiarize yourself with them prior to visiting your loved one.

  • Visiting hours are on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Visits are limited to two hours.
