How to Transfer Delta Miles to Marriott Using DoNotPay
The miles you earn from Delta Airlines don’t have to stay that way. What that means is that you can transfer the miles you’ve accumulated to another company and exchange them for another type of reward, such as points. You can for a chance to utilize those points for special rewards.
The transfer process isn’t always easy, so let DoNotPay help. We’ll handle the process so that you don’t have to stress over how it’s done.
How Delta Miles Work
Sign up for a Delta SkyMiles card and you’ll accumulate miles on every dollar spent. You can get bonus miles for signing up as long as you meet the requirements. Typically, those requirements involve spending so much money within a certain timeframe, such as $1,000 within your first 3 months. You could gain 35,000 miles from this bonus offer on the Delta SkyMiles Gold American Express card.
You can earn the following miles on purchases:
- 3 miles for every dollar spent with Delta: Applies to the Platinum and Reserve cards
- 2 miles for every dollar spent at restaurants and grocery stores: Applies to Gold and Platinum cards
- 1 mile for every dollar spent on additional eligible purchases: Applies to all cards
How Marriott Points Work
When you have a Marriott Bonvoy card, you can gain points when you make purchases. You can earn points for special events, at restaurants, on cruises, and for travel. You may see the following points accumulate:
|10 points on the dollar
|6 points on the dollar
|3 points on the dollar
|2 points on the dollar
Be aware that you can only accumulate so many points for each purchase. There is usually a maximum that you can spend before you earn less or no points at all for the remainder of your purchase.
Transferring Delta Miles to Marriott
If you have a lot of Delta miles accumulated that you would rather turn into Marriott points for hotel expenses or other travel costs, you can make a transfer.
One way to do this is simply by booking through Marriott. You’ll get the option to use your miles from Delta on any Marriott hotels. Make sure you’re logged into the Delta SkyMiles marketplace first and choose to book a hotel.
Every SkyMile from Delta equates to 3 Marriott points, meaning you’re getting more points for your purchases.

Are There Transfer Restrictions?
Delta allows up to 150,000 miles to be transferred from a single account in any given year. It’s also possible to transfer miles to another person’s account. You’ll have to have their name and account number first.
When you transfer miles to another person, you can only do so in 1,000 mile increments, up to 4 people at a time. You can send a minimum of 1,000 and a maximum of 30,000 to any one person. You may also only do so if that person’s account has been opened for at least 10 days, and they have at least 1 mile currently earned.
A transfer to another person typically happens quickly, but it can take up to 24 hours.
Reasons You’d Want to Transfer
If you have lots of miles accumulated and don’t plan on traveling via plane for a while, you can transfer those miles instead. This allows you to gain access to the points system through Marriott or a similar company.
Say you plan on driving to another state instead of flying. You could benefit from a transfer since you get to use those points you now have on a hotel stay or to redeem for other rewards. The miles may have gone to waste, but the points can be used on numerous options.
