Earning IHG Points

IHG features four ways to earn in their rewards program.

The first way is through hotel stays:

You can earn bonus points by booking hotel packages or being an elite member of IHG Rewards. When you first join, you are a Club member. You can become a Gold, Platinum, or Spire Elite member based on the number of points you earn or the number of nights you stay. Bonus points vary by tier:

  • Gold Elite – 10% bonus
  • Platinum Elite – 50% bonus
  • Spire Elite – 100% bonus

IHG Credit Cards

IHG currently partners with Chase to offer two credit cards:

  1. IHG Rewards Premier
  2. IHG Rewards Traveler

The Premier card does have an $89 annual fee, but you earn up to 10 points more per dollar spent with IHG with your automatic Platinum Elite status. Both cards offer 2 points per dollar on gas and 1 point per dollar on all other transactions.

Transferring Points Out

You can convert your IHG points to miles with any of their more than 40 airline partners. The conversion ratio is most often 10,000 points for 2,000 miles.

The transfer must be done over the phone. Rewards members can call 1-888-211-9874 if they are in Canada or the United States and 1-800-272-9273 if they are in Mexico. It can take up to six weeks for the converted points to show up in your travel partner account.

Transfers can also be made to another person's account, but you will be charged $5 per 1,000 points transferred.

Transferring Points In

As a result of their partnership with Chase, in addition to earning IHG points directly with IHG credit cards, you can also transfer your Chase rewards points to IHG Rewards. These four Chase cards are eligible for transferring points to IHG Rewards:
