How to Transfer Hyatt Points to Southwest Miles

When you travel often, joining memberships and building up points is always a good idea. If you have a favorite hotel chain, stay with them often and book directly for perks. If you have a favorite airline, get a membership to earn miles, upgrades, and lounge access. But what if you have too many points in a membership you rarely use and too few points to get the rewards you really want?

World of Hyatt members, for example, can transfer points with a number of partners including Southwest airlines. If you want to, you can do this internally or find an even better deal with the help of DoNotPay.

Earning Hyatt Points

loyalty members can earn 5 points per eligible dollar spent. Eligible spending includes:

  1. Hyatt hotel and resort rooms
  2. MGM resort rooms
  3. Small Luxury Hotels of the World rooms
  4. Dining, Spa, and Amenities in Hyatt hotels
  5. Hosting meetings and events in Hyatt locations

You can also earn bonus points by acquiring and using a Hyatt business credit card. After spending $7,500 on the card, you can earn 75,000 bonus points. You may also earn 9 bonus points per $1 spent with the card on Hyatt purchases and 4 bonus points per $1 spent on general purchases with the Hyatt card.

Where Can I Transfer Hyatt Points?

The best value for your World of Hyatt points will always be with Hyatt booked rooms and services. However, if you won't be seeing a Hyatt for a while, you can transfer your points at a loss to a large selection of airlines along with Avis car rental.

Most of the transfers are at a rate of 1,250 points to 500 miles. However, the minimum transfer is 5,000 points. That means that to transfer your Hyatt points into miles, you'll need to trade 5,000 points for 2,000 miles. For partners who use KM, 500 miles is substituted for 800 KM. However, some partners have a unique deal or a better ratio.

Southwest, however, will trade 5,000 World of Hyatt points into 2,400 Southwest Rapid Rewards Points.

Have a Southwest Rapid Rewards Account

To transfer Hyatt points to Southwest, you will need a Rapid Rewards membership. Southwest doesn't offer straight miles, they trade Hyatt points for Southwest's internal Rapid Rewards points. Rapid Rewards points can be used to buy tickets based on ticket fare, but it's not a direct points-for-miles exchange.

In order to exchange your World of Hyatt points for Southwest Rapid Rewards points, you will first need to have both accounts open. Make sure you have a Rapid Rewards membership before making the transfer.

Request Rapid Rewards When Checking Into Your Hyatt Stay

If you have both a Hyatt and Southwest membership, you can have your World of Hyatt hotel stays credited to your Rapid Rewards points on request at the front desk. Present both memberships when you check in to receive about 600 Rapid Rewards points per stay.
