Spirit Airlines Faces Class Action Lawsuit Over COVID-19-Canceled Flights

Millions of Spirit Airlines customers have been denied a refund for flights that have been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A 28-page complaint was filed in Massachusetts, and it states that instead of a refund, customers were offered a full value of their reservation credit in the form of a booking credit that can be used in the next six months.

The plaintiff said that there is a pressing need for monetary refunds, especially in the pandemic crisis and that travel vouchers offer virtually no security, they are burdened with restrictions, and that customers may end up not using the travel credit at all.

Grabbing attention is the suit’s claim that Spirit Airlines refused to issue refunds after close to $58 billion was set to be distributed to airlines as a part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES).

The lawsuit also states that Spirit Airlines has taken a variety of steps to make receiving a refund on canceled flights impossible, contradicting the established transportation requirements and its own contract of carriage.
