1. Visit an inmate using a video call

The Illinois DOC works together with GTL and Webex to give video visitation opportunities to inmates. The Webex calls are free of charge and compatible with both Android and Apple users.

The video visitation days are Sunday and Saturday 8:30 am to 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. To schedule a video visit, use the Android or Apple application form on the Hill Correctional Center website.

To successfully earn a video visitation opportunity with an inmate, you must be on the offender's approved visitation list. You must write to the inmate to confirm whether you are on the list or for approval.

2. Send a letter to an inmate

Inmates at Hill Correctional Center can receive letters from anyone. The letters must not contain any of the following:

  • Contraband
  • Jewelry
  • Stickers on envelope
  • Maps
  • Anything endangering the safety of the institution

3. Connect with an inmate through a phone call

Individuals in custody can make collect calls to people on their approved contact list. The calls are facilitated by Securus.

To receive a call from an inmate, you must be on the offender's approved visitation list. To be on the list, you must write to the inmate and ask for inclusion.

You also need to set up a Securus account by calling 1-800-844-6591. Through the Securus account, you can receive the call rates, accept, or block a call.

4. Email an inmate

Global Tel* Link works with IDOC to bring email services to the inmates. Once you email an inmate, the message is printed out and handed to the recipient. The inmate can, however, not reply to the email; they should use alternative methods such as physical mail.

5. Offer the Inmate a Physical Visit

You can visit an inmate at the facility to bring in-person compassion. Hill Correctional Center is open for inmate visitation every day from 8:30 am-5:30 pm.

Every inmate is allowed to have six visits per month. Only two of these visits can happen on a holiday or during the weekend. To visit an inmate, you need to book a slot online seven days before the intended date of the visitation.

The lockbox deposit slip must be filled in correctly with the inmate's IDOC number, full name, sender's name, and address. You can access the lockbox deposit slip from the JPay website.
