The Best Way to Understand the Alaska Airlines Refund Policy

Alaska Airlines is the fifth largest airline company in the United States based on passenger traffic. Alaska Airlines is operating a large network with its regional partners—Horizon Air and SkyWest Airlines.

Does Alaska Airlines have a refund policy, and can you refund a plane ticket from the company? DoNotPay is here to answer any question regarding the Alaska Airlines refund policy.

What Is the Alaska Airlines Refund Policy?

Just like the majority of other airline companies, Alaska Airlines follows the same rule proposed by the United States Department of Transportation—the 24-hour cancelation policy.

Customers who purchased a plane ticket seven days before the flight have 24 hours to change their mind and cancel the ticket to receive a full refund without any additional fees.

Although the 24-hour cancelation policy applies to every fare type you purchase with Alaska Airlines, the policy is different if you are canceling the ticket outside the 24-hour period.

Alaska Airlines offers five fare types:

  • Saver fares—They cannot be canceled or refunded after 24 hours have passed from the initial purchase
  • Main Cabin—If you want to cancel the ticket outside the 24-hour cancelation frame and get the refund, you will need to pay additional fees
  • First Class (Non-Refundable)—You need to pay an additional fee to cancel this fare type. The fee will be deducted from the ticket price, and you will be able to use the rest for the next trip with Alaska Airlines
  • First Class (Refundable)—With this fare type, you can cancel your flight without any additional fees
  • Award Ticket—This ticket is bought using Alaska miles, and it can be canceled and refunded by paying additional fees. Once you pay the additional charges, your miles will be returned to you

Bear in mind that if you are an MVP Gold or MVP Gold 75k status member, all fees are waived off for First Class (Non-Refundable), Main Cabin, and Award Ticket fares.
