All You Need To Know About the Air Canada Refund Policy

According to a survey conducted in 2017, Air Canada is ranked as one of the best North American airlines. But what if you need to refund a ticket for the flight you missed, or if the flight got delayed because of some unexpected issues? Can you get a refund for that plane ticket, and what is the Air Canada refund policy?

DoNotPay provides you with the answers to all of these questions so that you can understand the Air Canada refund policy better and get your plane ticket refunded without going through too much hassle.

What Is Air Canada Refund Policy for Canceled Flights?

Air Canada offers two types of fares:

  • Refundable
  • Non-refundable

Air Canada has a 24-hour cancelation policy, which means that you can cancel any ticket and not pay for additional charges within the 24 hours of the initial purchase.

This applies to both refundable and non-refundable tickets. When you request a refund within the 24-hour time frame of the original purchase, you will receive a full refund for your ticket on your original form of payment.

Can I Cancel My Ticket 24 Hours After The Purchase?

Yes, you can. Canceling a ticket 24 hours after the purchase might cost you additional fees. It depends on what type of fare you’ve purchased. If you decide to go with the basic economy fare, you will receive no refund upon cancelation.

Canceling Air Canada's economy flex fare would get you a partial refund once you pay a $200 Air Canada cancellation fee. Opting for Business and First Class fares will also get you a partial refund.

Canceling a non-refundable fare 24 hours after the purchase is possible, and instead of a refund, Air Canada will give you a travel credit voucher you can use to arrange another flight.

When Can I Use Air Canada Refund Services?

There are several situations in which you might be eligible for a refund or some other form of compensation. Contact Air Canada if:

  1. Your flight got canceled
  2. An emergency stopped you from traveling
  3. You failed to use your ticket for some other reason

What if Air Canada Cancels My Flight?

If your flight got canceled or delayed for more than three hours due to unexpected company issues or extreme weather conditions, Air Canada will offer you a full refund for your ticket or offer you to arrange another flight with a different airline. This applies to both refundable and non-refundable fares.

What if There Are Some Unplanned Events?

Serious disease or death of a family member can definitely come unexpectedly. Luckily, Air Canada has an unexpectedly lenient refund policy on that. In such horrible situations—unlike many other airline companies—Air Canada will provide you with a full refund of the ticket cost without asking you for proof or legal documents.

What If I Do Not Use My Ticket At All?

In case you did not make it to your flight, Air Canada will mark it as a no-show, and according to Air Canada Cancelation policy, your ticket could be redeemed in the form of a travel voucher that you can use within a period of 12 months.
