Potential problems when canceling QuickBooks

QuickBooks is one of those companies that make it notoriously difficult to unsubscribe from. Even though many subscribers have noticed—and complained about it time and time again—that the online cancelation form doesn’t work well, the company has yet to make any improvements.

Customer support is either unresponsive or, if you manage to get through, completely unhelpful. They make matters more complicated than necessary. For example, if you have a joint account with your spouse, they'll demand consent from both of you. QuickBooks is giving its best to keep you subscribed, even against your will, and are often accused of malpractice as a result of their foul business.

Does QuickBooks free trial auto-renew into a paid subscription?

No, it doesn’t. QuickBooks doesn't even require you to give them your credit card number to start your free trial. There’s no danger of forgetting about your free trial and being shocked when you receive your bank statement.

What do QuickBooks’ charges look like on my statement?

You will be able to see the charges on your billing statement. They probably look something like this.

Does QuickBooks prorate their cancelations?

No, they don’t. The service will be canceled after the current billing period, so you’ll have it at your disposal for as long as you’ve paid it for.

There is one exception—QuickBooks offers a 60 days guarantee. If you want to cancel the service within 60 days from the moment of purchase, you are eligible for a full refund.

Can you pause your QuickBooks subscription instead of canceling?

Yes, you can. QuickBooks will let you pause your subscription, and you won’t need to pay anything during the break. You need to follow the same steps you’d take if you wanted to cancel the service. Your data stays remembered for a year, and during this period, you can resume your subscription as if you've never canceled it in the first place.
