DoNotPay Makes Canceling Blink Membership Easy

Do you want to to take some expenses off your monthly expenditure? According to a survey published by Market Watch, 84% of U.S. consumers actually miscalculate what they spend on their digital subscriptions. Whether it's streaming shows, movies, music, or video games on demand, money is being siphoned from people's bank accounts more than they realize. It’s not only streaming services and video games. Subscription boxes that deliver themed items range in price from $20 to $200 per month. A more recent report published by ZDNet in September 2021 found the average consumer spending $273 per month on subscription services.

A new report from digital consulting firm West Monroe issued a report revealing that consumers are spending around 15% more on subscription services than they did in 2018. The report stated that the average person is spending an extra $430 annually on these subscription services. It's likely that these numbers rose significantly during the height of the pandemic in 2020 during the lockdowns. However, some companies have been less than gracious when it came to issuing cancellations and refunds. It turns out that Blink Fitness is among those companies.

Blink Fitness: An 'F' Rating in BBB

If you're considering not only to save money, but due to other issues, you're not the only one. Not only is Blink Fitness not accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) but it gave the business an "F" rating. Many of the complaints involved customers who had trouble getting Blink to cancel their subscriptions. In other complaints, when Blink did cancel a customer's subscription, the luxury fitness company used contractual reasons to deny the customer a refund.

One complainant to the BBB stated: "My husband and I originally signed up for Blink Fitness membership. We requested a cancellation of our membership due to COVID19 and also not being vaccinated [….] We were continually being charged even though we could not gain access to the gym. We would like for them to finally credit us back [the] monies owed and cancel membership. If need be we are willing to take this to court."

A representative from Blink Fitness responded with the following:

"Unfortunately, we see no record of cancellation on file so we are unable to adjust the charges at this time. However, after Blink made several attempts to contact [name redacted] about her past-due balance, her membership and account were administratively canceled due to non-payment on September 30, 2021."

"Based upon the foregoing, it is Blink's position that [name redacted] remains contractually obligated to pay her balance for monthly dues from June 2021 to September 2021 in the amount of $112.88 and should make the payment without further delay. Alternatively, if [name redacted] can provide proof of cancellation, Blink will gladly look into this matter further and adjust her account accordingly."

This is how representatives of Blink Fitness handle most customer complaints filed with the BBB. In other words, if you're thinking about simply and being done with it, you may have a rude awakening — literally.

A few other reasons for the BBB giving Blink Fitness an "F" rating include:

  • Out of the three complaints the company had in 2022 as the date of publishing, it hadn't resolved any of them.
  • Blink Fitness representatives seem to be rude and unwilling to help its customers.
  • Even though people have asserted they submitted several requests for cancellation, Blink Fitness not only refused to cancel but would continue to charge customers, while threatening them with collections.
  • The company didn't show customers compassion during the COVID-19 pandemic.
