How To Stop Facebook Emails

Facebook is one of the worst spammers known to man. They send a ton of emails for every single activity that’s related to your profile on the social network. Every two to three days, you’ll get an email telling you how many new notifications you have, which is insane.

Add to that all the friend requests and birthday notifications emails, and it becomes obvious why people choose to make a new email account and use the one that’s connected to Facebook as a “spam” address, which they never actually check.

That said, you don’t have to forgo your email account because you’re overwhelmed with the amount of spam. There is a way to customize the type of emails you’d like to receive, as well as to stop Facebook emails altogether.

How To Stop Facebook Emails on Your PC or Laptop Manually

While Facebook can be an unbearable spammer, the network does give you a myriad of options to help configure what types of email notifications you’d like to receive.

If you want to stop receiving Facebook emails, log into your account, and navigate to Settings, then Notifications. The default setting for email notifications is On. This means you’ll receive an email for literally every type of activity on the platform that’s either directly or indirectly related to your account.

There’s an option to choose to receive emails only about your account’s security and privacy. Unfortunately, there is no way to stop all Facebook emails manually. At the very least, they’ll send you security notifications via email, which are the ones you’d want to open anyway.

Stop Facebook Emails on Your Mobile Phone

The process of configuring Facebook email notifications on your phone is exactly the same. You can configure both email and phone push notifications from the Facebook app. With email notifications, you need to do what we explained in the section above—either uncheck the stuff you don’t want to get notified about via email or select the Only about your account option.

As far as push notifications on your phone go, to prevent them from popping up on your screen every two minutes, you should:

  1. Navigate to Settings
  2. Choose Advanced notification settings
  3. Uncheck Ongoing notifications

If you decide to stop receiving emails sent by Facebook, you'll find the steps quite straightforward and easy. Facebook gives you clear instructions on what you want to get notified about. You can also choose where you'd prefer to get your notification—on your browser, email, or via SMS.

Simultaneously, you will be additionally protected against mail scam. Your environmentally-friendly behavior may even get you compensation if there is a successful class-action lawsuit or settlement against the sender of scam mail.

How To Know if You Are Entitled to Compensation

A class action can be taken against Facebook if the Facebook spam mail is illegal—in case you never agreed to receive Facebook notifications or if there was no option to unsubscribe.

This is never the case with legitimate Facebook emails. Firstly, you automatically agree to receive emails from the company when you create an account on the platform, regardless of whether or not you actually read the Terms of Agreement. Secondly, all Facebook emails come with an unsubscribe option.

If you receive an email that’s allegedly from the company but doesn’t contain an unsubscribe link, you can be sure that it’s a scam attempt by a cybercriminal. You can report such emails to Facebook itself, but forwarding them to DoNotPay is a much better option.

We will both unsubscribe you from the sender, as well as notify you in case there’s a class-action lawsuit against them, so you can join it and potentially get compensation.

The DoNotPay dashboard will show a flag in its Spam Collector tab as a sign that there is an ongoing lawsuit against the sender. If you join it and the lawsuit results in a judgment in the class members’ favor or a settlement, you can receive up to $500 in compensation!
