How Do I Get My Pet License?

Currently, you have these options to file for a pet license:

  • Online Application - The online application for a pet license can be completed by creating an account with PetData, a third-party company that the City of Charlotte uses to manage its animal licensing department. You will need to give them your personal information and upload a few documents, including a current rabies certificate to complete the application online. There is a $2 transaction fee in addition to the regular licensing fees.
  • Apply by Mail - The animal control department also allows you to return the application by mail, but this option requires that you have access to a printer. You must then fill out and mail the application manually. Because mail tends to be a slower option, this could result in late fees, particularly if you are renewing an existing pet license.
