How to Cancel Your Frontier Flight With DoNotPay

Cancellations can be a huge hassle. Some merchants make cancellations and refunds as challenging as possible to discourage customers from seeking them or unintentionally out of incompetence.

But the process to can also be a hassle because we're time-constrained and need to navigate a complicated process on the fly. Take flight cancellations, for example. If a family or work emergency forces you to cancel a planned trip, you may find yourself with only hours to get your trip canceled, your money refunded, and take care of sixty other things.

If you've found yourself stuck with a Frontier Airlines flight, don't get stuck on hold or yelling at someone in a call center about refunding you the full amount you're due. There's a better way.

About Frontier Airlines and Its Customer Service

Have you gone to , seen Frontier Airlines on the ticket, and realized you've never even heard of the airline? Perhaps you purchased your ticket through a third-party booking service, or someone at your company purchased it on your behalf. And now, you're starting to feel a bit of dread, wondering if this is some small or new airline that prioritizes low cost over customer service, and you're going to have to go to war to get your money back.

While Frontier Airlines is an ultra-low-cost carrier, they aren't new. They were founded in 1994 and are headquartered in Denver, Colorado. They operate 112 aircraft and send consumers to 116 locations in the U.S. and abroad. And they've had their fair share of growing pains.

In 2008, they filed for bankruptcy. In bankruptcy, they were acquired by one company, divested, and acquired by another. They've since gone public but have made headlines as frequently for issues with their customer service as they have with their business troubles.

In 2015, an academic study listed Frontier as one of the five worst airlines for customer service. In 2020, Frontier's refusal to refund customers for flights canceled due to the pandemic resulted in a class-action lawsuit - one the airline eventually had to settle.

Getting Your Flight Canceled and Money Back From Frontier Airlines

Suffice it to say, getting your flight canceled and money refunded from Frontier Airlines may be an ordeal. Then again, it might not be. You could call, have someone answer immediately, and get your flight canceled and all or the vast majority of your ticket price refunded in one seamless two-minute transaction.

But if history is any indication, things won't go that smoothly. So, you can try taking the steps Frontier Airlines recommends for flight cancellations and refund requests. However, brace yourself for a high likelihood of disappointment, especially if you need to both cancel your Frontier flight and get your money back quickly.

Frontier's Process for Flight Cancellations and Refunds

If you need to cancel your Frontier flight, you need to look at your invoice or receipt. If you purchased a ticket with the WORKS bundle, your tickets are refundable at any time. The WORKS is an optional package for travelers that, in addition to ticket refundability, includes:

  • Priority boarding
  • Seating selection options
  • Flexibility to change flights
  • Checked bag and carry-on bag

The WORKS bundle can only be purchased when you book online on the Frontier Airlines website. The WORKS should not be confused with Frontier's PERKS bundle, which can only be added after booking your flight, either on the company's website or through a third party. The PERKS bundle includes:

  • Priority boarding
  • Seating selection options
  • Checked bag and carry-on bag

Notably, it does not include ticket refundability or the ability to change flights. If you've purchased a ticket with the WORKS, you can get your ticket refunded without any cancellation fee. If not, you can cancel your ticket and get a full refund without a fee if:

  1. You cancel within 24 hours of booking the flight.
  2. The flight is longer than 60 days away.

If the flight is within that 60-day window but more than seven days out, then you can get a refund minus a $49 cancellation fee.

If your cancellation request is within that seven-day window, your refund becomes a credit towards a new ticket minus a $79 fee.

That's according to the Frequently Asked Questions section of the website. However, on the Contact Us page, all tickets are non-refundable unless:

  • Purchased with the WORKS package, or
  • Purchased less than 24 hours ago and more than seven days out.

With this contradictory information online, you're probably going to have some difficulty canceling your Frontier flight and getting your money back.
