Gavin Newsom has also tagged $300 million in the relief money that California received to take care of these ticket fees to cover the shortfall in the budget that would occur by just forgiving the loans with no plans to pay them back with other monies.

What Traffic Tickets are Eligible for Forgiveness?

Only some traffic tickets are eligible for forgiveness, and some of the serious offenses that people commit may not be eligible for forgiveness. In those cases, you will have to pay off your ticket to regain your driver's license and get your record clear. California is helping as many low-income individuals get their licenses back as possible to clear their records and get on with their lives.

California has deemed certain populations NOT eligible for these forgiveness programs, including individuals who had a ticket due before January 1st, 2013, and they either did nothing about it or did make payments but none after September 30th, 2015.

The tickets that you need to be forgiven must also meet the following criteria as traffic tickets:

• tickets cannot be for the following:

• DUI
• reckless driving offenses
• parking tickets

• some misdemeanors may be eligible for ticket forgiveness (others will not be eligible)
• you must not have any other misdemeanor or felony warrants outstanding in the county in which you are applying for ticket forgiveness
• you must not owe victim restitution to anyone in the county where you are applying for amnesty
