How To Get A Kia Gas Rebate

Since 2012, Kia has been offering gas rebates for purchases made for 2011-2013 Kia vehicles. Like other companies, such as Menards and Michelin, Kia offers a variety of rebates throughout the year that can help you save money overall! What is Kia's gas rebate? And how do you become eligible to receive one? Read on to learn how can help you get a Kia gas rebate!

What is a Kia Gas Rebate?

In 2012, a lawsuit was filed against Kia and Hyundai, as evidence was shown that both companies exaggerated estimates for 2011-2013 model vehicles. The United States Environmental Protection Agency was asked to audit gas mileage estimates in Kia and other brand-name vehicles. The evaluation concluded that mileage estimates were off by one to six miles in many vehicles. As a result, Kia has offered gas rebates to cover the missed mileage from what was advertised.

The gas rebate is in the form of lifetime reimbursements, which can be calculated at a Kia dealership. You can have your Kia reimbursement determined throughout each year and get a rebate based on your mileage and the required adjustment. In addition to the rebate, you will also receive a 15% premium for fuel costs. If you don't wish to receive a rebate, you can instead opt for the lump sum in the settlement. As of January 31, 2022, appeals in the settlement have not been resolved as yet.

Who is Eligible for a Kia Gas Rebate?

The following are the two qualifications for getting the Kia gas rebate:

Purchased Affected Models

In order to qualify for a Kia gas rebate, you must have been the owner of a Kia, which was released in one of the following years:

  1. 2011
  2. 2012
  3. 2013

These vehicles were the ones affected in the case and may make you entitled to the settlement sum or the rebate, depending on what you choose.

Rebate or Lump Sum Settlement?

Car owners who purchased the affected vehicles can opt to settle between the Lifetime Reimbursement Program or the Lump Sum Settlement:

Lifetime Reimbursement Program
  • Detailed information about the Lifetime Reimbursement Program, including a reimbursement calculator

that provides a reimbursement estimate, is available at www.KiaMPGClassSettlement.com.

  • High
  • mileage drivers may receive greater amounts from the Lifetime Reimbursement Plan.
Lump-Sum Settlement
  • Provides compensation in one payment, without the need for additional dealer visits or paperwork.
  • The amount of each Lump Sum Payment is determined.

by your Class Vehicle and what type of Class Member you are.

  • Former owners and lessees are eligible to receive a Lump Sum Payment with the same cash value that they would receive under the Lifetime Reimbursement Program.

Vehicles Purchased Before November 02, 2012:

The second stipulation is that you must have made the Kia purchase before November 02, 2012 (which was when the settlement was initiated). The vehicle could have been purchased new or used before November 02, 2012, to be considered for the gas rebate or lump sum settlement.
