Summary About Governor Polis

Jared Polis, born Jared Schutz Polis on May 12, 1975, is the first elected openly gay governor and the first governor of Colorado of Jewish descent. Although a native of Colorado, Polis lived in San Diego where he completed his high school education at La Jolla County Day School and graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor’s degree in Politics.

Before becoming governor, Polis co-founded and nurtured multi-million dollar companies like ProFlowers - an online flower ordering website, American Information Systems, and TechStars to fruition, becoming one of the four wealthiest men in Colorado at one time.

His early footprints into politics were first seen by his role in the Colorado State Board of Education, as well as other government committees where he contributed to landmark decisions such as Amendment 41 that sharpened the respect for ethics in the state government. Polis won Colorado’s 2nd congressional district three times before becoming governor in 2018, under the support of a growing LGBT community.

Together with his partner, Marlon Reis, the family now has two children.
