How To Send an FBI FOIA Request via Fax or Mail

You may submit your FBI FOIA request via mail or fax. Use their sample request letter, and follow these instructions:

  1. Open the Sample Request Letter for FBI
  2. Describe your request in detail
  3. Type your full name and mailing address
  4. Provide more info that can help narrow the search (aliases, Social Security number, etc.)
  5. Write how much money you want to spend on fees
  6. Mail the form to Federal Bureau of Investigation, Attn: FOI/PA Request Record/Information Dissemination Section, 170 Marcel Drive, Winchester, VA 22602-4843 or fax it to (540) 868-4391/4997

You may request to see information about:

  • Yourself
  • Another living person
  • A deceased individual

If you are looking for information about another individual, you’ll need to have their written consent. In case you are looking for records of a deceased person, you will have to provide proof of death (obituaries, death certificates, or other reliable documentation).
