Medi-Cal Dental

Medi-Cal Eligibility

To be eligible for Medi-Cal, you must be an uninsured or underinsured US citizen or legal alien with low income. For a single person, the threshold in California is $17,609 (138% of the federal poverty level). For each additional person in the household, the limit increases by $6,183. You must also meet one of the following conditions:

  • Be 65 or older
  • Be pregnant
  • Be blind or have a disability
  • Have someone in the home with a disability
  • Be responsible for a child 21 or younger
  • Live in a skilled nursing or intermediate care home
  • Be on refugee status for a limited time
  • Have been screened for breast or cervical cancer

You are also eligible if you receive benefits from one of these programs:

  3. Foster Care or Adoption Assistance Program
  4. Refugee Assistance
  5. Supplemental Security Income
  6. State Supplementary Payment

Even if your income does not qualify you for Medi-Cal, you may still be eligible for financial assistance through Covered California.

Applying for Medi-Cal or Covered California Assistance

There are five ways to apply for Medi-Cal:

  1. In-person – You can get help with your application when you apply in person at a county social services office.
  2. By mail – You can mail your application directly to the program at Covered California, P.O. Box 989725, West Sacramento, CA 95798 or to a Health and Human Services office in the county.
  3. Over the phone – Call 800-300-1506 to apply. Phone lines are open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 8 pm and Saturday 8 am to 6 pm.
  4. Fax your application in – Send it to 888-329-3700.
  5. Online at Covered California
