MD Anderson offers two ways to request your . DoNotPay offers a third option.

You Have a Federal Right to Your Medical Information

Most people are aware that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) protects patients from having their medical information shared with others. However, they often don't realize that the law also grants you the right to request your medical records and to authorize the release of those records to third parties, such as your designated caregiver or your physician.

How to Request Medical Records from MD Anderson

MD Anderson provides the following ways to make a medical records request:

  1. By phone
  2. By electronic access through MyChart

It should be noted that there is no information offered on MD Anderson's website about requesting records in person or whether they charge a fee for providing your records. Here is a look at each of these methods for requesting your medical records.

By Phone

MD Anderson offers two phone numbers to call to make a medical records request.

If you are requesting a release of information regarding doctor's notes and lab results713-792-6710
If you are requesting to see information from the Film Library, including access to image scans and radiology reports713-792-6210

Electronic Access

MD Anderson also provides patients with access to their medical records through MyChart. MyChart is a secure, personalized web portal where patients have access to records such as diagnostic or lab reports, image scans, and more. The portal also provides users with the opportunity to schedule appointments, contact their doctor, and more. Unfortunately, while the portal is offered both on a website as well as through a mobile app, both are known to struggle with outages from time to time that can make it difficult to access your records.

Some issues that have been reported online about the app include an all-black or all-white screen, which is most commonly associated with the Android version of the app; the app not working properly due to the server being down, problems with your mobile connection, or too many users on the app at the same time; problems logging on; problems updating the app; and not getting notifications from the app.

It shouldn't be that difficult to make medical records request to gain access to records you have a federally-granted right to obtain. Luckily, DoNotPay's Request Medical Records give you a third choice.
