How to Apply for Kings County Section 8 Without the Wait

For low-income families, housing that is clean, safe, and in good condition is often unattainable. What others take for granted, some families consider out of reach due to the cost of housing. In order to help fight housing insecurity, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), established the Housing Choice Voucher Program (also commonly known as Section 8 or HUD Housing) to help low-income families find affordable housing in the private market.

If you are interested in learning more about housing, DoNotPay is here to help you get started.

What Is Section 8 Housing?

Section 8 housing is a voucher program that assists low-income households, including individuals with disabilities and/or the elderly. The program allows these households to find appropriate housing in the private housing market by issuing vouchers for landlords, which reduces the burden of rent for tenants.

As a tenant, you have the right to choose any house, apartment, or townhouse that meets the requirements of the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program, so long as the landlord accepts the vouchers.

Are You Eligible for Kings County Section 8 Assistance?

Eligibility for the Housing Choice Voucher Program is established by HUD but is then verified by your local Public Housing Authority (PHA). Your PHA will accept your application, determine eligibility, and issue the voucher if you are accepted into the program.

Eligibility criteria includes:

  • Being a United States citizen, or qualifying under the specific immigrant status
