Am I Eligible for Any of the Programs Available by the City of Yuma Housing Authority?

When HACY (Housing Authority of the City of Yuma) first began its Section 8 program several years ago, they had funded 200 families across two complexes. Today in 2022, this program is set for 1,450 families with over 400 landlords providing affordable housing opportunities beyond that of apartment complex living. You may view the complete listing of available Section 8 Housing from HACY. As you can see, there are many Section 8 properties available, and rightly so as Section 8 represents over 80% of all HACY residents.

You can check the following links for information on Section 8 eligibility with the HACY:

Once your application has been reviewed by the HACY staff, you will receive a phone call within 20 days of the receipt of the application to let you know where you currently stand in the application process. You could be;

  1. Approved and placed on a specific waiting list
  2. Approved and be placed in a HACY property
  3. Denied

If you are placed on a waiting list the waiting period could be anywhere from one week to two years depending on your family composition, the family's needs, and the turnover rate for HACY property. If you are being placed in HACY-sponsored housing, you will be notified when and where to finalize your rental agreement and receive the keys to your new HACY Home! While this doesn't happen very often, it can happen with any application received on any given day.

There is constantly empty available housing for those who qualify and your application may be just the one needed to fill a space with a loving family grateful for a new apartment home!

There is a much better way that will take you less time during the application process and be less confusing to the entire family!
