- Reversal request
You must provide persuasive proof to back up your allegation.
Step 6: Submit the Representment Package
Your acquiring bank will get your response along with supporting documentation. The acquirer checks the case for accuracy before sending it to the issuer. Because you're essentially re-presenting the transaction to the issuer, this is referred to as “representment."
Step 7: Bank Review & Decisioning
The issuing bank reviews the information. There will be one of three outcomes:
- The issuer decides in your favour. The original transaction is validated by your representation case. The funds are returned to your bank account when the transaction amount is re-charged to the cardholder's account.
- In the cardholder's favour, the issuer decides that your proof was insufficient to persuade the bank to reverse the chargeback. The decision of the issuer is final.
- The issuer files a second chargeback after you win. The issuer can submit a second chargeback for the same transaction. The discovery of new information or a modification in the reason code is the possible reason for a second filing.
Step 8: Arbitration
The stakes are high at this point. When you request arbitration, you ask the card network to make a fair decision. The card company's judgement will be final, and the party who caused the disagreement might face substantial penalties.
