How to Request Pay For Delete Services From Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union

If you have derogatory marks on your credit report from , you may be able to work out an arrangement with them to have them removed. It's not always easy, and it takes time and effort to work through the process to make sure your results are as successful as possible.

Pull Your Credit Reports

There are three major credit bureaus:

  • TransUnion
  • Experian
  • Equifax

Some banks and credit unions only report to one or two credit bureaus, while some will report to all three. You are entitled to free copies of your credit report from each credit bureau. Check each one carefully and verify your personal information, account information (length of account, payments made, amount owed, etc.), inquiries, public records, and other listed information. You may find this information helpful when you request pay-to-delete services, or necessary if you need to dispute incorrect information.

Request Pay-to-Delete Negotiation

If Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union has reported you to any credit bureaus as making late payments, being delinquent, or turning your account over to internal (or third-party) collections, you may still be able to have it removed. A Pay-to-Delete Negotiation letter is when you write a letter requesting a settlement, where you pay part or all of the debt in exchange for them removing all negative remarks from your account.

  1. Write a well-crafted letter that includes your account number and outline that (even if you do not accept responsibility/ownership of the debt) you will compromise by offering a settlement amount. You can offer to pay the full balance owed, or another amount, if they agree to remove the debt.
  2. Your letter needs to request that they offer a written agreement that states they will agree to accept the payment as satisfying the debt in full, that they do not list the debt as a paid collection or settled account, and that they remove any and all references to the account from credit reporting agencies where it has been reported to and validated.
  3. Request that they send a signed agreement with the terms you mentioned from an authorized representative on company letterhead.
  4. Confirm in your letter that when you receive their acceptance letter, you will send payment, but if you do not receive a response or confirmation within X number of days, the offer is rescinded.
  5. Double check your grammar, spelling, and punctuation. You want your letter to be well-received and taken seriously.
  6. Make copies of correspondence before mailing them.
  7. It is advisable to send the letter certified with the return receipt requested. This allows you to verify when the letter was received and who accepted it.

What if Your Pay-For-Delete Request Is Unsuccessful?

If you send a pay-for-delete letter that is ignored or denied, you may be frustrated. You can try the pay-for-delete request again, and hope you have better luck. You may reword your letter to be more convincing, or offer a different amount. You can also try the saturation method, which is mailing the letter at different intervals to multiple company addresses, with the intention that different representatives will read it and be willing to work with you. You can also try this method with available email addresses.

If you see any incorrect information related to the account, you can also file a dispute with the credit bureaus. By law, if the information cannot be validated and correct, it has to be removed. However, if they can validate that the debt is yours and you are responsible for it, this may not help.

You may even be considering hiring an attorney to help you, but this can be more time-consuming, stressful, and costly. However, a quick and easy option is to take advantage of DoNotPay's Clean Credit Report solution.
