Skip the DMV Today - Renew Your Florida Vehicle Registration with DoNotPay

No matter the make or model of your vehicle, there are two things every car owner is familiar with: routine maintenance and appointments with the DMV. Fortunately, some transactions can be handled from the comfort of your home. If you are a Florida resident and your vehicle registration deadline is approaching, DoNotPay can help you get your registration renewal done without stepping foot in the DMV.

Available Renewal Methods

Florida registrations are valid for up to two years. Your renewal notice may be sent up to 90 days in advance, but notices are considered a courtesy service, so it is up to you to know your expiration date. If you have a vehicle registered in Florida due to employment or residency in the state, you have up to four different ways to renew your registration:

  1. Renew in person
  2. Renew by mail
  3. Renew through the FLHSMV mobile app MyFlorida
  4. Renew online with GoRenew

In-Person

In-person renewals can be done at any motor vehicle service center or other authorized auto tag agency in the state. Bring your renewal notice and payment to your local tax collector's office. You will be charged a tax collector service fee to renew your registration at the tax collector 's office. If you renew somewhere other than the tax collector's office, additional fees may also apply.

By mail

Some vehicles can have their registrations renewed by mail. If you are eligible, send your renewal notice and payment to your local tax collector's office. Confirm accepted payment methods with your location as cash, credit cards, and debit cards are not accepted everywhere.

Mobile app

The Florida DMV has a mobile app called MyFlorida that allows residents to complete some types of transactions from their phones. In MyFlorida, you can

  1. Renew your registration
  2. Get a copy of your registration certificate
  3. Check your vehicle for any stops or holds on registration

You must have your license plate or vehicle identification number and valid insurance to renew. Credit cards and checking accounts are accepted for payment. There are processing fees of up to $4 for renewing through MyFlorida.

Online

Registration renewals and duplicate registrations can be processed through GoRenew.com for a $2 fee. Payments must be made with a credit card. The registrant must provide "personal identifying information" to start the transaction. Your registration will be mailed to you within 10 business days. If you need proof of registration before it arrives, you can opt to have a receipt emailed to you on the payment confirmation page. If you do not receive your registration within 20 calendar days, you can request a "lost in transit" replacement at a motor vehicle service station. Your county may have additional online payment portals in use.

Registration Fees

Your base registration fee is determined by the car's weight, body type, and primary function. The maximum base fee for a car or a truck weighing up to 5,000 pounds is $32.50. Heavier trucks start at $60.75. Other fees may apply depending on your method of renewal.

Vehicle registrations are valid under midnight on the registrant 's birthday. You must have valid registration to drive your vehicle, but a delinquent registration fee is not imposed until the 11th day of the month after your registration expired. The amount of the delinquent fee depends on the license tax and ranges from $5 to $250.
