Why Do I Need Copies of My Wyoming Divorce Certificate?

Like most vital records such as marriage, birth, and even death certificates, your divorce documents help you access certain benefits and establish your identification. You'll need your divorce certificate to legally change your name with banking institutions, insurance companies, and government agencies, and you'll need them to make sure your will is updated and your assets distributed according to local and state laws. And, of course, it is an official document that signifies you have settled your divorce.

These are just a few reasons you should have a copy of your divorce certificate with your other important documents, and an extra or two to send if you need to comply with requests.

Who Can Get Copies of a Divorce Certificate in the State of Wyoming?

In order to qualify for official copies of your divorce certificate, you must be:

  • One of the persons named in the document
  • An attorney acting on behalf of either person on the document

Unlike current certificates, which are only available through Wyoming Vital Statistics Services, historical certificates must be ordered from Wyoming State Archives.
