Contact an Inmate at Soledad Correctional Training Facility

Also known as Soledad State Prison, Correctional Training Facility (CTF) is located in Soledad, California. CTF is designed to house approximately 3.300 inmates. This institution is divided into three separate facilities that each provide its own unique range of inmate services and programs. Those incarcerated here can help train service dogs, obtain mental health services, and take part in a diverse array of vocational training programs.

If your friend or family member is currently being held at CTF, maintaining communication is incredibly vital. Inmates with prison pen pals, regular visits from family members, and other forms of outside contact often have far lower rates of recidivism. They find it easier to adapt to the outside world upon their release, and they experience less depression and anxiety when doing their time. Fortunately, DoNotPay makes connecting with a CTF inmate quick, easy, and completely hassle-free.

How to Contact Inmates at Correctional Training Facility

You must be an approved visitor to schedule visitation with any inmate at the Correctional Training Facility. Applications for visitation approval are handled by the California Department of Corrections (CDOC). To apply, you must read the CDOC's Adult Inmate Visiting Guideline and complete the Visitor Questionnaire (CDCR Form 106). This document should be submitted to the current Visiting Sergeant or Lieutenant at Correctional Training Facility for review. Once this document is received, the CDOC will perform a background check before issuing their approval.  You can contact the Visiting Sergeant at this Soledad prison by calling (831) 678-3951 ext. 5071 to check the status of your application.

This Soledad prison uses the Visitation Scheduling Application (VSA) to set up both in-person and video visits. As of December 9, 2021, the CDOC is staggering start times for visits. Correctional Training Facility and all other prisons in the Central California area have a VSA request period that's open from 6:30 a.m to 11:59 p.m.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the CDOC's ongoing efforts to mitigate the health risks of outside visitation, it's important to know the most current rules and regulations pertaining to visitor conduct, vaccination status, and testing requirements before scheduling your visit. You can find COVID-related updates on visitor requirements in the CDOC's Roadmap to Reopening Plan.

How to Write a Prisoner at Correctional Training Facility

There are several rules that you must follow when writing letters to inmates at Soledad Correctional Facility. To start, you should always write the inmate's full name and CDOC registration/inmate number on both the envelope and the enclosed letter. Knowing how to address a letter to an inmate is important for ensuring that your correspondence is received. You should not send lewd photographs, Polaroid photos, or any books, magazines, or newspapers. If you want to send anything other than a written letter to your loved one, you will need to use the CDOC's approved vendors for packages. These vendors are listed on the CDOC website.

How to Send Money to Inmates at Correctional Training Facility

There are three ways to send money to Correctional Training Facility inmates. These are:

  1. You were mailing a check or money order
  2. Making electronic funds transfer
  3. Placing a deposit in an onsite lockbox

No matter which of these three methods you choose, you will need to have the inmate's CDOC inmate/registration number, the name of the facility that they're being detained in, and their general housing assignment.

Using a Check or Money Order to Send Your Loved One Money

Sending money by check or money order to a loved one at Correctional Training Facility doesn't require you to pay any third-party fees. However, a 30-day hold will be put on all funds transferred. When using this method, be sure to make your payment out to the CDOC. Include the inmate's name and registration number on the check, and submit your payment direction to the Correctional Training Facility using the Staff address.

Making an Electronic Funds Transfer to a Correctional Training Facility Inmate

Electronic funds transfers (ETFs) require you to pay a third-party fee for each transfer. These monies are processed by authorized vendors for ETF transactions, including: JPay, Access Corrections, and ConnectNetwork/GTL.

Depositing Money in an Onsite Lock Box for a CTF Inmate

Using a lockbox to send money to a Correctional Training Facility inmate is completely free. You will need to complete a "Money Order Deposit Form" and then mail your payment to JPay, 2202 South Figueroa St, Box #3001, Los Angeles, CA 90007. These funds are held for 10 days.
