How to Get Your Canon Camera Repaired at the Lowest Cost

If you have a Canon camera that has developed problems, you might be looking for a way to get it repaired, ideally without resorting to expensive dealers. Finding the best deal can be challenging.

DoNotPay can help you get quotes for Canon camera repairs, and also for repairs on all kinds of things including Samsung, Nintendo Joy, iPhones, Macs, Apple Watches and other Apple products, as well as appliances from Sears, LG, and GE, and auto glass from Safelite.

How Much Does Canon Charge for Camera Repairs?

One option is to go to the manufacturer and get repairs or maintenance from them. This is often worth it if your camera is still under warranty, but it might not be if you have to pay for it.

Canon does not reveal what they charge for all camera repairs, but here are some examples.

Image Sensor Cleaning$49
Full Maintenance Check$129
Lens Maintenance Check$59

They don't give estimates on other repairs until they have received the camera and checked it, and they don't charge for simple checks. They also don't complete the repair or charge you until you have approved the estimate. The major downside is that Canon will often keep your camera for an extended period of time before telling you how much it will cost. Not good if you have a trip coming up.

Canon does offer an extended warranty, called CarePAK, which gives you free shipping for repair, camera maintenance services for free, and priority service.

How to Get a Repair From Canon

In order to get a Canon camera repair, you should:

  1. Go to their website.
  2. Create a Canon account if you haven't already.
  3. Click on Start a Repair.
  4. Select your product from the dropdown.
  5. Follow the instructions.
  6. OR click on the Request Camera Repair form, fill it out and print it.
  7. Put your camera in a sturdy box.
  8. Ship to one of the Canon Factory Service locations shown below.
  9. Wait.

The Canon Factory service locations are:

  • Canon Factory Service, 12022 Canon Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23606
  • Canon Factory Service, 123 Paularino Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA 92626

You should ship to the closest factory service location. Note that the seven-day promise for repairs does not include shipping time. You will also have to pay for shipping unless you purchased CarePAK.

Canon does not do repairs through authorized dealers, only by shipping to their centers.

How to Get Repairs From Third-Party Providers

Despite being a pain, getting repair direct from Canon has some advantages. You will know for sure that only Canon parts are being used, the technicians are highly trained, and they will typically find all of your problems.

If you need to save time or money, you can go to a third-party camera store. This will typically give you a lower cost and much faster service. However, if your camera is still under warranty, you may void said warranty. There is no guarantee they will use Canon parts as opposed to cheap third-party costs.

Your options include:

  • Local camera stores. These may be your best option if your camera is no longer on warranty. They typically offer solid, personalized service.
  • Best Buy's Geek Squad does repairs on cameras and camcorders and will do home visits (for a price).

There is, of course, no guarantee that you will actually get a better deal from these third-party options, of course, and it's worth checking out all possibilities. Again, if your camera is still in warranty, you may be best off going with Canon repair, as any third-party work can void the warranty and, if you choose poorly, potentially make the situation worse (and thus more expensive).
