What Is the Cost of a Brazilian Tourist Visa for U.S. Citizens?
U.S. citizens don’t need a visa to enter this country, so you can relax knowing you don’t have to spend too much time and money on that. As a tourist, you can stay up to 90 days (per one visit) in Brazil without a visa. The annual stay limit for U.S. citizens and other tourists from visa-exempt countries is 180 days.
If you want to stay in Brazil longer than 90 days, you must apply for a temporary visa.
Brazil Temporary Visa Fees
You can apply for a Brazilian temporary visa (VITEM) for the following reasons:
- Family reunion
- Research
- Study or internship
- Long-term medical treatments
- Work
- Cultural, technical, or scientific work
- Missionary work
- Volunteer work
- Investment business
To apply for a temporary visa for any of these reasons, you will have to pay the following fees:
VITEM Type | Visa Fee |
---|---|
Family reunion | $290 |
Research | $250 |
Study or internship | $160 |
Long-term medical treatments | $290 |
Work | $290 |
Cultural, technical, or scientific work | $290 |
Missionary work | $250 |
Volunteer work | $250 |
Investment business | $290 |
You should pay the fee in a post office before submitting your documents. These fee payments have a validity period of 30 days, so you should submit the required paperwork for your visa within this time frame.
COVID-19 Restrictions and Test Costs in Brazil
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all land borders in Brazil are closed. This means that the only way to enter this country is by plane.
You are not required to stay in quarantine upon your arrival, but you will need to provide the following:
- A negative PCR test result that is not older than 72 hours
- The Traveler’s Health Declaration
The minors are exempt from PCR testing if they are:
- Younger than 12 and accompanied by an adult
- Under the age of two
If you need to get tested for COVID-19 again during your stay in Brazil, you will be able to do that in one of the country’s private labs. These labs use PCR, serology, and antigen tests, and their prices range between $60 and $100.
